On January 14, 2025, the pool remains closed but was refilled so the new plaster could finish curing and chemicals balance for several weeks. Watch your inbox and our Facebook page for the pool reopening date. See Pool Closure for updates emailed to members.
Pool Attendants: If you plan to bring children 16 and under and have not yet attended a basic water rescue class and have a valid CPR/first aid certificate, you will not be able to bring children to swim unless there is a another volunteer attendant on duty.
Swim Attendants
To swim with children 16 and under you must:
- Have a valid CPR/first aid certificate to attend children 16 and under
- Have a valid basic water rescue certificate to attend children 16 and under
We have several members who have already met the requirements and are willing to volunteer to attend while children are present, but that will be during short time periods. When an attendant leaves all children 16 and under must get out of the pool and leave the building (or be in the process of leaving the building).
If a member brings children when they are not qualified to attend, and there is not a volunteer attendant on duty, that membership will be cancelled immediately. This is NOT something we want to do, and we don't like these guidelines. However, we have to strictly follow the guidelines or we will risk being shut down.
What does an attendant do?
An attendant will enforce the pool rules. If someone needs assistance in the pool the attendant can toss out a life preserver ring or use the shepherd's hook. The attendant is not required to enter the water or perform CPR.
Attendant watching the children in your own group
As an attendant watching your own children or your own guests may be in the pool or on the pool deck. If you are on the pool deck you cannot be reading book or using a phone (picture taking is acceptable).
Volunteer attendant watching all children in the pool
As a volunteer attendant watching all children in the pool, you must remain on the pool deck and cannot be in the pool. While you are on the pool deck you cannot be reading or using a phone (picture taking is acceptable).
How do I become an attendant?
You must complete these 2 courses (in any order):
1. Complete a CPR/first aid course
We are offering CPR/first aid classes at the club which are $75. The next class is scheduled for Feb 11th from 4pm until 9pm. If you would like to attend this training, please reach out to Kristi Long via text or phone (360-990-1649) and she will send you the registration link.
You can complete CPR/first aid elsewhere but must have a valid card prior to being able to attend. Other places to check include South Kitsap Fire and Rescue, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and Bremerton Fire Department.
2. Complete a basic water rescue course
We are working on getting water safety training set up in house once the pool reopens. We anticipate having that set up within 4 to 6 weeks of the pool reopening.
The director at the Lynnwood Recreation Center has been super gracious in helping us with classes until we are up and running. We are currently working on scheduling a couple classes up in Lynnwood on Friday evenings and Sunday evenings. The downside is that you will have to travel to Lynnwood for the training. The upside is that you will have the class completed and won't have to wait until we have in house training set up.
If you wish to attend one of the training sessions in Lynnwood, please reach out to Kristi Long via text or phone (360-990-1649) for a faster response.
Submit copies of completed certifications
Please make sure you have submitted copies of your completed CPR/first aid and basic water safety certifications to Kristi Long once you have completed both courses. We need to keep them both on file.
Retake your certifications before they expire
You must retake the CPR/first aid course every 2 years and resubmit a copy of the completed certification to continue bringing children 16 and under to the pool.
You must retake the basic water safety course every 3 years and resubmit a copy of the completed certification to continue bringing children 16 and under to the pool.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. You are welcome to email, call, or text anytime. This is new territory for all of us. We are doing our best to make this as easy as possible for everyone, including the membership.
